Craps--all you need to know

Craps--all you need to know
Was talking about craps at the poker table last week. (Yes, so degenerate I end up talking about a gambling game waiting for a new hand to gamble!) A guy asked about craps. I told him, "This is all I really know. And it is all you need to know!"

What you need to know is two bets, four depending on how you count.

Pass/Don't Pass. The simplest bet in craps. Wait until the "puck" says "off." This is the come-out roll. This is the only time you may bet the pass/don't pass in craps. Bet the pass and 2/3/12 comes up you lose. 7/11 comes out you win. Exact opposite for Don't Pass.

Any other number is the "point." Pass means the point comes before a "7" you win even money for your bet. 7 comes out you lose. Don't Pass is the opposite. Point first you lose, 7 first you win.

If you bet "Don't Pass" expect to be unpopular at the table as you will be winning when almost everyone else is losing. Few players bet the Don't Pass.

Next thing to know is "taking/laying" "TRUE ODDS." You may place a multiple of your Pass/Don't Pass bet and take or lay "true odds." Place this multiple behind your Pass/Don't Pass bet. It will say something like "3xs Odds" by the minimum/maximum bet sign or you can ask a dealer.

On this bet you get the TRUE ODDS of your bet. THAT IS RIGHT! THERE IS NO CASINO ADVANTAGE IN THIS BET! The only bet in the house with no casino advantage. Take odds on Pass or lay them on Don't Pass--IT DOES NOT MATTER!

Lets look at what happens here. There is a casino advantage on Pass/Don't Pass. But when you get true odds on your bet, this lowers the house edge. For example, if it was a $10 bet with a 6% house edge, betting $30 with ZERO house edge makes the advantage 2% (These are made up numbers, for real house edge on craps, go to http://www.wizardofodds.com.)

The nightmare of a casino owner would be if every player just bet Pass/Don't Pass with full odds. They would be lucky to pay the electric bill.

That's all you need to know! That is the best bet in craps, the rest have a much higher house advantage. You will likely get dealers "selling" those proposition bets. But I play to win cash, getting 30-1 on 35-1 odds of a hardway happening is not my idea of "entertainment."

Good Luck!

Maybe if you could make a post about Dice control? I don't know a lot about this.

Don't know enough about it yet.

One thing I forgot to add above. When you take/lay "true odds" you place that bet BEHIND your pass/don't pass bet. There is no marker for it on the table.

Yup, the best bet in the casino and you need to know to make it because it is not advertised just like Binions does not put the "Surf and Turf" special on the menu, even though it is available.
