How To Play SNG's - Short Guide
10-8 Players : Play monster starting hands (AA, KK, QQ) very aggressively and try to go all in preflop, or at least narrow the field to one caller and double up. If you get AK play it aggressively and based on position. Other hands that you should play are hands that can turn into a monster; pocket pairs, suited connectors and Ace-X suited. You should only LIMP IN (don’t bet, just call but don’t call big bets) with this hands and try to catch a set, straight or a flush.
7-5 Players: Only play premium hands and as the blinds go up don’t play suited connectors or small pocket pairs any more unless you have a big chip lead. Every action coming from you should only be Raise or Fold. 5-4 Players: This is the stage when players start to play tighter because they want to get to the payouts (first 3 places). When you sense weakness and have a position on someone you can use your tight image to steal blinds (they should be pretty high now). Best players to steal from are short stacks. If you are a chip leader don’t let others see a cheap flop, but don’t waste chips also. 3 Players: At this point you are in the money. Play aggressively, steal blinds but be careful at this stage with short stacks, because when they enter into the money they will be less reluctant to call your raise. 2 Players: If you are the chip leader put pressure on your opponent by doubling the blinds or by putting him all-in if he’s very short stacked. If it’s the other way around and you are the short stack push all-in with picture hands, pocket pairs and Ax suited. If the blinds are very high and you have to make a move quickly, do it with suited connectors or Ax. "Depend on the rabbit's foot if you will, but remember it didn't work for the rabbit." - R. E.
